California State University, Northridge: Mock Trial Team

"Mock Trial. Real Results"

The CSUN Mock Trial team participates in competitions against other colleges and universities across the nation run through the American Mock Trial Association. During each of the four rounds of competition, spread over the course of two days, students simulate a full trial (civil or criminal depending on the case). Students portray the roles of attorneys (plaintiff/prosecution or defense) to present opening statements and closing arguments as well as examining witnesses (direct and cross). Students also play the role of witnesses (embracing the character and becoming intimately familiar with that witnesses story/testimony) to convey the facts on direct examination and withstand cross-examination by the opposing team. These competitions allow our students to improve their critical thinking, public speaking, acting, and teamwork skills. Each year, the team has improved its record and hopes to continue.
Each competition season starts in late-August and continues through the end of February (and possibly beyond if the team advances).

Most Pressing Team Issue of the day!!

The coaching staff and team advisors are currently reviewing the past season, evaluating what worked well, and preparing new strategies and materials for the upcoming year. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be reconnecting with returning members, organizing recruitment efforts, and getting ready for our next round of team tryouts and competitions.
